Two weeks ago we announced five finalists for the egg contest and after a cook-off yesterday, we have a winner, André Grant.

Grant heeded the call of an 'egg-citing' dish with a Jamaican twist with his Jamaican Sweet Potato and Ham Egg Bake dish that won him first place.

Avadawn Reid got second place for her creative dish - Scrambled Egg with Susumba and salt fish. And third place went to Kamille McNeish for her Jerked Eggs on Biscuit.

Judging

Contestants were judged for Presentation - which included the appearance of the finished product and serving dishes used for presentation, etc.

Taste - which focused on the dominance of the main ingredient and whether what the judges taste represents the dish as they know it.

Texture/moistness - assessed whether the dish was lumpy, smooth, tough, soft, etc.

Want-more factor - relates to whether you would like to eat more or do you feel like spitting it out at the first taste.

Be sure to read next Thursday's Gleaner for full story on the contest, prizes and recipes.
