Ben Francis Knockout champions Glenmuir High School, with maximum three points from their first round Group Five game, will be among the teams gunning to strengthen their quarter-final round bid when action resumes in the inter-zone round of the 2009 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup today with 12 games.

The Patrick 'Jackie' Walters-coached Glenmuir, fresh from Wednesday's 2-0 first-round win against Paul Bogle, will battle fellow first-round winners Annotto Bay High School in the feature game of a Jamalco Sports Club double-header at 3 p.m.

Annotto Bay had a 4-2 win against Bog Walk in their first-round game.

Last year's beaten finalists, Spaldings High School - one of seven first-round winners - should have a major task on their hand when they come up against beaten Ben Francis KO finalists Munro College in a 3 p.m. Group Three game at the St Elizabeth Technical High School grounds.

While Spaldings had a first-round 1-0 win against Bellefield, Munro battled to a 1-1 draw with Clarendon College.

Defending champions St James High, who stated their Group One campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw against 2003 champions Frome Technical, face a crucial assignment against first-round winners and group leaders Manning's School in their 3 p.m. feature game of a Jarrett Park double-header.

While a defeat for St James High would basically see them relinquishing their title, a win for the Manning's team would put them within a point of securing a quarter-final place.

first round win

Manning's had a first round 2-0 win against William Knibb High School.

"Having dropped two vital points against Frome Technical, we basically must win against Manning's," said St James High's coach, Pastor Hugh Solomon, whose team relinquished the Ben Francis KO title earlier this season.

"We will be throwing everything into this game as we have no choice but to take all three points," added Pastor Solomon.

Group Two leaders Marcus Garvey Technical, who had a first-round 1-0 win against Grange Hill, should be in for a stern examination when they come up against eight-time champions Rusea's in the 1 p.m. curtain-raiser at Jarrett Park. In their first-round fixture, Rusea's played out a 1-1 draw with 11-time champions Cornwall College.

However, while a draw could keep Marcus Garvey firmly in the hunt for group honours, anything less than maximum three points could mean the end of the road for the Rusea's team.

aiming to rebound

In the other Group Two game, Cornwall College and Grange Hill will both be aiming to rebound, having failed to win their respective first-round fixture. The game is slate for 3 p.m. at the Frome Sports Ground in Westmoreland. In a similar fixture at the same venue last year, Cornwall College had a close 2-1 win.

Impressive first-round winners Dinthill Technical will be aiming to tighten their early grip on Group Six when they go up against Paul Bogle on their home turf. Unbeaten to date in this competition, a win for Dinthill will see them only needing a draw from the final game against Garvey Maceo to top the group and secure automatic qualification for the quarter-finals.
