Classy Prospect looking good

LIKKLE BIT (No. 6) is pushed out by in-form Shane Ellis to get the better of TOBAGO (No. 5, Clive Lynch) and SLOGAN (partly hidden on the inside, Richard Mairs) to win the eighth race for overnight allowance horses over 1400 metres at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. - Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer
With the big Super Weekend of racing featuring the ADL Superstakes scheduled for November 13 and 14, today's meet at Caymanas Park strikes a moderate note.
The feature event on the 11-race programme is the annual renewal of the Royal Lancaster Trophy over the round five course for native-bred maiden two-year-olds, offering a total purse of $715,000. It has attracted 12 starters.
Included in the line-up are five newcomers, one of whom has the credentials to open his account immediately.
In fact, CLASSY PROSPECT, from the stables of champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, has looked so forward in condition that he could well turn the race into a procession, despite the presence of MAJESTIC (who went down fighting on last), to be ridden by leading apprentice Doushane Gordon for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny.
injured jockey
Significantly, Gordon, along with champion jockey Omar Walker, was injured in a spill in the eighth race last Saturday and it was expected that young Gordon would be out of action for at least a month. However, the injury to him was not as serious as was thought and he has only missed one raceday.
CLASSY PROSPECT, to be ridden by in-form Shane Ellis, is a handsome dark bay colt, by Saint Appeal out of the 1999 Derby and Oaks winner, Good Prospect, who was also trained by DaCosta.
half-brother
CLASSY PROSPECT is a half-brother to that useful overnight allowance sprinter JACK BE GOOD. He has worked impressively in preparation for the race, galloping 5 1/2 furlongs in a brisk 1.07.3, the last five in 1:01.0 Sunday morning last. And prior to that (26/10), he galloped a flat half-mile in 48.2.
As his name implies, CLASSY PROSPECT is a classy-looking colt with lots of speed and is tipped to open his account right away.
MAJESTIC looks his principal danger from the convenient mark of 49.0kg.
I also like the recent winner ALLABOUTTHECAT to repeat in the other two-year-old race on the card, the third over 1200 metres. The American colt from the stables of Gary Griffiths beat EXCELLENCE by a length in a fast-run 1100-metre race on October 10 and, having worked well since, gets the nod over CAT FOR THE KING in a field six.
Other firm fancies on the card are the debutante ALIAS MR CAT in the fourth, stable companion LAWS OF THE CAT in the fifth, LUCKIE EDDIE in the ninth and PLEASANT PRINCESS ahead of JAYLEN in the 10th.
