Following her excellent performances in this year's Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Business House competitions, national invitee Marsha Murphy said she is ready to secure a permanent place on the Sunshine Girls team.

"I do think that I have the requisite skills to play for the national team because I believe I have matured enough to play at the highest level in the world," said Murphy, who is currently pursuing a degree in Human Resource Management at the University of Technology.

Murphy scored over 500 goals to help Scotiabank Group make a clean sweep in this year's JNA Business House netball competitions, when they captured the league, rally and knockout trophies.

"I think that I had an excellent season because scoring over 500 goals in the competition is not very easy to do," said Murphy, who is the vice-captain of the Scotiabank team.

"I have worked very hard on my shooting in training and it has paid off for me," said the 27-year-old.

Murphy, who plays both goal shooter and goal attack, was a member of the national Under-21 squad between 1999 and 2000. She was also a member of the senior team, which was preparing for the 2007 World Championships in New Zealand, but did not make the final 12.

"I was a bit disappointed when I did not make the World Championships team," said the 6' 1'' Murphy, who is an admirer of former national goal shooter and Jamalco clubmate, Elaine Davis.

"I love Elaine because she is calm and humble and easy to talk with whenever you have a problem," she said.

Murphy, who is the captain of Berger Paints Super League champions Jamalco, attributes her career success to her coach Winston Nevers and managers Wayne Shaw and Diana Polack, who have aided her development in the sport over the years.

She has been playing netball for the last 15 years, starting at Linstead All-Age School. Murphy then went moved on to St Jago High, where she excelled not only in netball, but also football. She was a member of the St Jago championship team which won the ISSA Under-19 Football Competition in 2000.

"I used to play defence for my school and I was very good at it," said Murphy with a smile on her face. " I still love football, but netball is my life."
