HUNTS TOWN, ST MARY:The skies opened, as if they too wanted St Mary to increase its supply of water when Dr Horace Chang, Minister of Water and Housing commissioned the Hunts Town/Wellington water supply system.

The moment, while not normally associated with strong sentiment, was a profound and moving one for many who have had to deal with the inconveniences of not having potable water in their community all their lives. Finally, their dreams were made reality.

Robert Montague, member of parliament for Western St Mary, who for many years has been agitating for something to be done in regards to water supply, said he was glad the day had finally come.

Montague encouraged persons in the community to take care of what they had been given.

subsidised connection fees

Noel Donaldson, chairman of Rural Water Supply Limited, contractors of the project, boasted of his company's frugality.

Chang told citizens that connection fees to the water supply would be subsidised.

"Instead of paying $8000, persons will only pay four," Chang explained.

According to the water minister, $19 billion had already been approved to begin work on water supply systems in rural areas.

Chang also revealed that two more systems are set for St Mary in Mason Hall and Agualta Vale.
