February trial for cop on murder charge

Published: Saturday | October 31, 2009

The policeman, who is charged with the murder of a 14-year-old schoolgirl who accused him of sexually molesting her, is to be tried for the girl's murder on February 3.

The trial date was set yesterday when 22-year-old Constable Rushan Hamilton appeared in the Home Circuit Court.

A few weeks after the girl made a report to the police on October 10, last year, that she had been allegedly sexually assaulted by Hamilton, she went missing.

Hamilton was charged with carnal abuse in October last year but in March of this year, he was also charged with the girl's murder

The body has not been found and there are no eyewitnesses to the murder.

The girl went missing from her gate at Harbour View, St Andrew, in late October last year and has not been seen since.

Hamilton is in custody awaiting trial.
